Gulf Shores Golf
Planning on a little Gulf Shores golf? How about Orange Beach golf? Some people play their way to the gulf on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, then stop and spend some time playing the courses in the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area.
Actually, Gulf Shores is better known for golf than Orange Beach, so most of the courses we review will be at or near Gulf Shores. Of course, Since Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are just a stone’s throw apart, it really matters very little. I suppose it would matter a lot if you were collecting taxes for the two municipalities, but since we’re going to leave all that to someone else, we’ll continue to treat the two as one and use the names interchangeably.
A reporter on The Golf Channel summed it up this way, “Recipe for a golf destination: a beach is nice, restaurants and nightlife help, shopping adds some flavor, but the essential ingredients are the golf courses. [In] Gulf Shores Alabama you just might get what people look for in a golf vacation, plenty of golf and just as much relaxation.”
Gulf Shores golf is big, no doubt about it. From Kiva Dunes at the tip of Fort Morgan to Craft Farms up Highway 59, there’s a lot to choose from.
Speaking of Kiva Dunes, it’s a great course that has grown up in the last few years, adding houses and condos on the property. And it’s right on the beach!
For a beautiful course nearer Gulf Shores, try Peninsula. It’s one of John’s favorites. After seeing Peninsula, I considered becoming a golfer myself.
The course at Gulf State Park is a pretty big step-down from Peninsula in terms of sheer swankiness, but it’s still a beautiful course that golfers enjoy. At least, the parking lot is always full. More on this course soon.
And the City of Orange Beach bought the old par 3 Tony Trevino course on Canal Road. It's up and running as a course and a driving range. We'll give you a report on it soon!
Often, condos and rental agents offer golf specials. It never hurts to ask!
After your round of Gulf Shores golf, you’re going to be hungry. Where do you eat? Check out these suggestions.
Remember that the site is under construction, so the list of Gulf Shores golf choices is incomplete. John will keep playing, and we’ll keep adding. In the meantime, if you want a review of a course we haven’t featured yet, email and let us know! The email form is on the "About Us" page.
